Our lil wrestler

Ethan had his first wrestling tournament yesterday, 2/27.  Over 500 kids wrestled at this tournament!  Weigh-ins were between 7 and 8 a.m. and wrestling was to start at 9.  We were very blessed that Ken didn't get called out and was able to take Ethan to weigh-ins and then to breakfast afterwards and Bryce, Isaac and I showed up at 7:45.  Ethan weighed in at 42 lbs so we assumed he would be in the 40-lb weight class, however, they put him in the 45-lb weight class instead.  Much to our surprise, the tournament didn't start until somewhere around 10:30!  Ethan had two matches literally back to back and of course Ken had gotten called out (thankfully just a local call) right before his first one and ended up missing two.  So how did he do you ask?  Well his first match he got pinned, second lost by default (the other kid scored more points), was pinned in the third match, lost by default on the fourth and was pinned in the fifth.  All the kids he wrestled had wrestled before and weighed more than he did but Ethan did really well all things considered.  It also helps his uncle Kyle was a state wrestler for Deer Park!  It was an exhausting day for all of us but Isaac did surprisingly well napping in his car seat from time-to-time.  Next tournament is Saturday, 3/6 in Chewelah.  After our first experience, we will be packing a rolling cooler full of snacks and drinks, as well as toys to keep the boys occupied while waiting in between matches.
